DAY CARE INFORMATION

Day Cares are classified using three definitions, they are as follows:

Family Day Care Homes: Any family day care, new or existing, keeping between 3 and 5 preschool age children. With also up to 3 school age children, who are all unrelated to the operator.

Day Cares of this type are required to meet the code requirements of North Carolina Building Code Vol. VII or be a manufactured home that bears proper labeling.

Day Care Homes: A home occupied as a residence, used in keeping children of the number defined by the state agency having jurisdiction.

This building must meet NC Building Code Vol. VII and the requirements of the NC Building Code Vol. I

Day Care Centers: Includes all day care centers small, medium, and large as defined by the state agency having jurisdiction.

When considering owning or operating a Day Care it is best to contact the Department of Human Resources and obtain a Day Care packet. This packet will include the inspection forms that we must have in doing our inspection.
